PACKAGING : PROJECT BRIEF 2 VITAMINS FOR SENIORS

The brief requires packaging for a vitamin based supplement that would aid arthritis sufferers (target audience: seniors).Individuals who suffer from arthritis have difficulty performing repetitive motion, so my design strays away from that, instead my packaging has a swivel top lid and a secondary lid which can be flipped open, while it stands anywhere due to the suction cup at the base of the packaging

The logo development

Vitamin C is one of the most vital supplements which aid in combating or
relieving arthritis,Vitamin C is a compound in science
Vitamin + Compound = VITACOM
Vitamin C’s formula and molecular structure inspired the design
Orange is commonly associated with the compound Vitamin C
Greyish white was used to illustrate bones and joint of the body
The aim of the entire packaging was to be useful, easy to use and simple ,I
decided on a futuristic approach, a science feel and a design that made sense

How it works

 Ergonomics:
The vitamin packaging design aims at improving the ability to open child resistant enclosures for the seniors/arthritis sufferers. There are 2 ways of getting the medication out of the package both openings do not require repetitive action (arthritis sufferers aren’t capable of) which is what the packaging should aim to do. One opening is a swivel action for drawing out the medication at a slower pace, more controlled, most 2 at a time(due to the high amount of medication required to be taken a day(10 capsules) it is imperative that the seniors do it cautiously to avoid overdose

The second opening has a flip open style which is similar to most tablet containers, although this design flips open an a 45 degree angle, and it has a space on the inside of the opening which allows you to place each capsule to allow for counting and keeping track of how much medication one has taken and how much medication is left for the month before one buys another. The PVC suction cup located at the base is for grip and holds and stays temporarily anywhere for convenience. Seniors usually cant grip to tightly and if the packaging slips and falls on the floor it is difficult to grab and put back, so the suction cup keeps the pills and it packaging in a safe and dry surface. It can also be moved from room to room, e.g. bedroom drawer to kitchen counter etc.
